The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the position of Equipment Operator (Water Treatment Plant) at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.
Job Title: Equipment Operator (Water Treatment Plant)

Location: Headquarters, Ibadan

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

Carry out operation and maintenance work at water treatment plant, swimming pool plant, Sewage treatment plant, Dam Pumping stations;
Clean water treatment plant, swimming pool, sewage plant, pump stations and its surroundings;
Dose treating chemicals for processing of water;
Repair faulty equipment and plants;
Take hourly reading and record it in operating production sheet;
Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualification and Experience
OND/ Trade Test in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus (5) Years relevant post-qualification working experience.

The candidate must:


  • Must have a very good knowledge of general repairs, fittings and plumbing
  • Must have a very good knowledge of water treatment
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Lead overall Humidtropics communication and knowledge management

Educational Qualifications
The candidate should have MSc or MA degree in journalism, communications, public affairs, or fields related to agricultural science.

Proven ability to conceptualise, design and implement major campaigns, strategies and programmes
Experience in communications and the ability to write clear, compelling and diverse English-language communications materials for different audiences.

Job Title: Agribusiness Coordinator

Location: Abuja, Nigeria.

Position/Responsibilities
The Agribusiness Coordinator will work with other team members to maintain the sustainable supply of cassava roots to targeted cassava starch/gari factories recommended by public-private sector investors to increase the income and food security of small-scale farmers. The other tasks are as follows:
Coordinate the day to day implementation of all the cassava value chain projects. This involves the selection, clustering, mobilization, and training of farmers, identification of efficient service providers, establishment of Demonstration and Multiplication Trials, processing facilities, and organizing field days. It also includes making regular monitoring and evaluation visits.
Ensure that the targets specified in each project are met at the specified time.
Assist in the procurement of inputs (germplasm, herbicides, fertilizer, etc) and their distribution to farmers.
Supervise all field staff and activities in the project States (Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Niger, Kogi, Imo, Anambra, Jigawa etc).
Coordinate the collection of field data and analyses with the IITA Biometrics Unit.
Prepare technical and financial reports periodically as required by each investor.
Assist in demonstrating the economics of cassava root supply using a farmers’ cluster model.
In conjunction with other scientists, develop extension leaflets, scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals, IITA Bulletin, and other magazines/periodicals.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager and the Director, R4D West Africa Hub.

Educational Qualifications
The candidate should hold at least a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business Management, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture/Agronomy or other related fields.

Core Competencies:
Minimum of 8 years working experience in an agricultural research organization.
Good knowledge of the Cassava Value Chain.
Excellent English reporting, writing, and oral communication skills.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point).
Strong ability to coordinate, prioritise and organise workload; take the initiative, and work under pressure.
Good team spirit, with readiness to participate as a team member in the accomplishment of duties.

Position/Responsibilities
Support the Chief Officer Management with leading the Humidtropics M&E activities.
Assist in the development of a Monitoring & Evaluation framework for Humidtropics. A key aspect of this M&E framework should be gender sensitivity/mainstreaming.
Support Humidtropics Management in the implementation of results-based performance management.
Support the Humidtropics M&E activities in all locations.
Collaborate with the M&E staff from Partner organizations.
Provide management with business intelligence for strategic decision making.
Maintain all necessary Humidtropics on-site and online M&E related databases and repositories.
Undertake internal and external evaluation missions, as may be required.

Educational Qualifications
The candidate should hold a PhD, MBA or similar advanced degree in a relevant field.

Proven sensitivity to cross-cultural and gender issues and ability to work with multi- disciplinary teams.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

BROILER PRODUCTION/PROCESSING FARM MANAGER
Dandani Farms Nigeria Limited – Warri (Nigeria)
JOB DESCRIPTION
we have opening for a Broiler Production/Processing Plant (including hatchery/incubator/slaughtering/defeathering/evisceration/packing/cold storage) facility in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. Our capacity is 10,000 broilers per week at peak production.

RESPONSIBILITY:
The production manager is responsible for managing the production operations to ensure the achievement of production targets within specified quality, environmental standards and budget. To ensure production meets the indent and overheads and manning levels are within agreed budgets.

JOB DESCRIPTION/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY (AOR):
1. Managing the production team and ensuring zero mortality of birds as well as zero number of birds that fall short of specified minimum weight.
2. Managing the manufacturing process within defined safety and quality standards.
3. Adherence to Production plan and ensuring that production targets are met.
4. Achievement of production budgets,with minimum wastage of raw materials,ingredients and packaging materials.
5. Implement & foster a continuous improvement environment.
6. Adherence to site and business protocols.
7. Consolidate the activities of all production supervisors in order to ensure smooth operation for production and responsible for any emergencies that occur at that Plant.
8. Ensuring that all produced waste from the processing plant are properly managed with the aid of the rendering plant with zero impact on the environment.
9. Ensuring that all raw materials and logistics arrangement, including consumables in the processing plant and utilities systems are available at all times.
10. Reporting status and progress to business owner weekly in pre-agreed format.
11. Ensuring that all process machinery/equipment meet the required performance requirements, including co-ordinating the execution of planned preventive maintenance task to ensure equipment performs as required, as well as managing the review of the equipment deficiencies and taking corrective action.
12. Co-ordinating the Preparation annual budget, reporting monthly budget performance and ensuring operation is within the budget.
Remuneration, which includes housing and transportation, is very attractive.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification: HND/BSC in any engineering/agric related course. Post-graduate traing in poultry operations and processing will be an added advantage
Experience: Not less than 10 years operating a broiler farm and poultry processing/packaging plant
Skills: Business Planning and management, budgeting and financial controls, cash flow analysis, maintenance planning and management, Production planning and analysis, use of basic IT packages (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Effective communication.

Position: Research Technicians (Pathology) (2 positions)
Duration: 18-months renewable contract
Location: Ibadan

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
Conduct laboratory, screen house and field experiments and sampling with guidance from the Supervisor;
Carry out microbiology work involving sample preparation, organism isolations, isolate storage, media preparation;
Ensure proper sampling labelling, organisation of work areas;
Keep proper records and ensure proper data entry into field and laboratory books
Maintain sterile work environment in preparaon for and during laboratory work;
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualification and Experience
ND in Science Laboratory Technology plus at least three (3) years post-qualification working experience in a research institution.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word Packages will be an added advantage.
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently;
Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions;
Possess good organizational and communication skills:
Be able to work under pressure, and willing to work outside work hours where necessary.
