Aspen Energy Nigeria - Our Client, a leading Nigerian independent integrated energy company, currently playing in the downstream sector of the Petroleum industry now wishes to set up an E&P Company with the aim of acquiring, developing and producing oil & gas assets safely and efficiently for the benefits of all stakeholders. The Company is seeking to recruit talented professionals in a wide variety of fields to lead and drive the business.


Job:  Managing Director

Location: Nigeria, Lagos

Purpose:
To lead, manage and control the Company and its resources in accordance with the company strategy. To be responsible for the Profit and Loss account of the company. To nurture the new company into profitability within a reasonable period through growth and prudent management.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Identify, acquire and mature Exploration and Production opportunities in support of long-term business vision.
Develop and deliver an ongoing dynamic strategy for growing and expanding the Company’s Exploration and Production business.
Develop and implement a corporate Communication plan regularly across the business to convey timely and appropriate information, directions and messages to all stakeholders (internal and external) and regularly monitor effectiveness.
Devise, evolve and deliver an ongoing dynamic strategy for growing and expanding the client’s Exploration and Production business. Regularly challenge, and if necessary modify this strategy to reflect new business trends in the industry and external environment (i.e. - Political, Commercial, Security, Operational and Integrity risks).
Approve all EP Business Policies for the Company and deliver the business plan agreed targets, delegate responsibility and ownership for assets and processes, approve work programmes and budgets in line with the business plans.
Develop and operate a risk based control framework and manage the risks specific to the EP Business.
Establish and deliver New Ventures within the upstream as part of the growth strategy.
In collaboration with other Business leaders and partners, maintain in-house technology application to drive sustained efficiency and business performance improvement.
Proactively manage overall business risks and take necessary corrective action on deviations to Business results against scorecard.
Develop and operate an HSEQ framework and process that comply with the highest industry standards to ensure sustained delivery of exceptional HSE performance.
Manage business stakeholder relations, and assume responsibility for managing key high level stakeholders (e.g. NNPC, DPR, JV partners and other Government agencies) in consultation/ cooperation with the board and build partnership to support business growth and long term aspirations.
Manage/direct the HR process effectively and ensure that high standards of recruitment, training and career development are being maintained, in order to achieve overall target of low staff attrition rate, whilst ensuring the Company becomes the “Employer of Choice” within the industry.
Develop the Upstream management team both in terms of calibre of management personnel and size/structure to fit the optimum needs of the business. Ensure succession planning is in place for all key positions (including own position).

Competencies Required:
Broad knowledge of Upstream processes, standards and procedures with proven managerial skills in taking tough decisions and providing good leadership, sound judgement with diplomacy in dealing with stakeholders.
Visionary leadership skills in business development, project management, Hydrocarbon maturation (planning and execution) strategic planning and change management.
Strong record of delivery on business targets and improving operational performance of projects. Has track record of demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with workout and turn-around skills enabling new business projects implementation.
Previous technical/operational leadership role within IOCs, NOCs or equivalent Exploration and Production organisation.
Strong relationship, interpersonal and influencing skills and must have held senior technical roles within a global Oil & Gas organisation.
Cultural flexibility to engage counterparts and colleagues in the variety of cultural environments.
A demonstrated track record of success as a leader, manager, and developer of people in a rapidly growing oil field services technical environment.
Experienced in leading the successful operation of large scale project - on time, on budget, and with measurable positive customer benefits and value measured in repeat business.
Deep and broad understanding of how to communicate and work well with corporate and other affiliate companies to increase revenues.
Financial budgeting and planning experience and skills.
Ability to work in a challenging environment.
Bottom-line focused with proven technical and commercial skills to drive delivery maximum asset value year on year.

Education:  
Bachelor Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences or Applied Sciences is required. Post Graduate degree would be an added advantage.

Experience:  
Minimum of 15 years E&P experience working on multiple projects and operations, in a client/ operator environment at a senior level.
