Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited Recruits Welding Engineer


Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited (SCNL) is a subsidiary of SAIPEM S.PA., a global leader in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Project Management in the Energy Sector. Due to increasing workload and expansion of our offshore activities in Nigeria, we are seeking for highly qualified, pro-active, fast learning, well organized and motivated Personnel to reinforce our team.

Job Title: Welding Engineer (WLDENG)

Responsibilities

  1. Assist and support the Welding Coordinator and/or project teams on all welding matters.
  2. Prepares and issue preliminary Welding Documents for assigned project or bids.
  3. Review clients’ specifications and scopes of work, examine pipe metallurgy and prepare detailed Welding procedures to achieve maximum productivity in accordance with required quality levels.
  4. Coordinate and schedule personnel and systems for the qualification of welding procedures and welders.
  5. Review subcontractors tender documents and technical qualifications.
  6. Assist QHSE Department on subcontractor assessments/ audits.
  7. Review and approve subcontractors welding submissions.
  8. Ensure that welding traceability info are recorded, maintained and available in the required format for all Welding activities to demonstrate achievement of client requirements
  9. Review journals and technical papers for new welding technology.
  10. Maintain contact with welding equipment suppliers and consumable vendors to promote advances in welding technology.
  11. Maintain updated departmental project Welding files and database so that information is readily available to other departments.
  12. Liaise with the barge personnel, particularly welding supervisors and operative welding figures, and assist optimizing work methods and trouble shooting where and when required.
  13. Monitor lay barge progress to identify opportunities for improvement.
  14. He/she shall also:
  15. Verify Project Technical requirements for Welding Activities.
  16. Propose the Base material Purchase strategy for a fabrication Project.
  17. Prepare and issue Welding Documents (Welding Books, WPSS, WPQR, PTW report, Procedures, etc.)
  18. Evaluate and estimate type and quantity of welding consumables.
  19. Prepare Purchase Requests for Welding Consumables.
  20. Monitor Consumables consumed along the project, evaluating additional Consumable Purchase, if required.
  21. Monitor the Welding Quality through the analysis of the trends of Project Defect Rates and Welders defect rates prepared by QHSE Dept., proposing improvement actions.


Required Professional Skills

  1. Knowledge of main international Discipline standards, codes and regulations.
  2. Ability to analyse dedicated Project requirements in terms of local standards and codes and to identify proper implementation actions.
  3. Knowledge of the metallurgical properties of the main metallic materials and impact on their physical, mechanical and corrosion resistance properties.
  4. Knowledge of main welding processes (GMAW, SAW, FCAW, GTAW, Plasma, others) typically required by projects and related techniques.
  5. Knowledge of welding equipment.
  6. Ability to perform trouble shooting and propose corrective action.
  7. Ability to identify the most suitable equipment and equipment consumable for any specific case


Qualification and Experience
A University Degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering.
A Minimum of 4 years Experience in Welding Engineering activities.
Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
